The City of Shelby, a community of just under 10,000 residents, is located in Richland County, Ohio. The official Mission Statement of our City is “To promote the health, safety, morals, and general welfare of the entire community and to improve quality of life, the City of Shelby, Ohio will provide high quality, cost-effective governmental services”.
If you live or work in our fine City, then you already know we are staffed by hard working and courteous individuals who work diligently to provide you with the highest level of service at all times. Many of our employees have been with us a long time and you may even know them as your friend or neighbor.
If you are new to our City and visiting this site to locate one of our buildings or to answer a question about city services such as leaf pick-up or where to pay your utility bill, then I hope you are able to obtain the information you need. Should you require further assistance, please contact us at the listed phone numbers and addresses. We are here to help in any way we can.
As Mayor, I believe our City has a lot to offer its citizens. We have an excellent school system, a City Park complex that includes a swimming pool, several picnic pavilions, and a large wooden playscape area, our own Public Library, YMCA, and a new Senior Citizen Center that opened in 2007. We are also served by MedCentral Shelby Hospital, where a new 7.8 million dollar surgical wing addition was completed and opened in July, 2008.
Shelby is also home to The Pioneer Career and Technology Center and the North Central State College Kehoe Center for Advanced Learning.
Shelby’s largest employers and their number of employees include Arcelor Mittal (669), MTD (440), Shelby City School System (350) and R.S. Hanline (300). We also offer an abundance of quality housing, both old and new, have been designated a “Tree City USA” city for over twenty five years, and are one of the few cities in Ohio which still operates its own power plant.
Again, we hope visiting this website will provide you with the information you need as you learn that Shelby is a “Great Place To Grow”. Please feel free to contact me or any of our City staff for further assistance. We'll be happy to help.
Sincerely,
William R. Freytag, Mayor
